Know Your Rights Under New Mexico & Albuquerque Law

Understanding your rights is an important first step when something goes wrong at work or your civil rights have been violated. New Mexico and federal law provide important protections, and people in Albuquerque may also have additional protections under local law.



• Employment Discrimination: New Mexico and federal laws protect workers from certain forms of employment discrimination. Albuquerque also has its own Human Rights Ordinance prohibiting discrimination in hiring, firing, compensation, promotions, and other terms and conditions of employment based on protected characteristics.

• Retaliation: Employees may have legal protections when they report discrimination, participate in an investigation, or otherwise exercise protected workplace rights. Albuquerque's Office of Civil Rights also investigates retaliation claims covered by its Human Rights Ordinance.
